                Praise the Lord its all over for another year

                          This time tomorrow St Pats will be gone 

so Boris wants over 70s to self isolate for 4 months,,,,, has he ever tried staying in for a week..... we will all end up depressed and fat...,, meanwhile the WHO says he should be doing so much more.. I give up

SAINT ROCKY....... keep that halo polished x

Today is the Feast day of Saint Rock or, as he is familiarly known, Saint Rocky. Saint Rocky is the Patron Saint of Dog Lovers, having been kept alive in the wilderness when he was sick by a dog who brought him bread every day from his master’s table.

Rocky had gotten sick tending the plague-stricken. Though the plague did not kill him thanks to Fido the Faithful, it made him so unrecognizable that when he arrived home in Montpellier, he was thrown in jail as an impostor. When he died, his jailers found a birthmark that proved his identity. Why they did not think to look for the birthmark while he was alive remains a mystery.

It is hard to imagine a dog being caught so long by a case of mistaken identity. Smell is not so deceptive, I think, as sight. Sure, diet and health can change the overtones, but out genetic code gives us our basic smell. Even humans with their comparative dearth of olfactory information processing, it turns out, can read genes by sniffing. Co-eds in a college experiment got to smell men’s t-shirts, and chose as smelling “sexy” the shirts worn by guys whose genetic profile meant an immune system that complemented their own, and as “dull” the shirts of guys whose were the most genetically similar. “He smells like my brother” was a comment that was genetically accurate. The nose knows more than we think.

I always wondered that Rocky as when I worked in Elderly People Homes we always put on a party for St Patrick's Day which was lovely and thoroughly enjoyed but all the other saints didn't get a look in..........

 Ah, St Patrick’s Day. An important celebration of Irish history and culture and heritage, which involves wearing giant leprechaun hats and having five pints of Guinness for brunch. As the one-time Pub Landlord finds out in Al Murray: Why Does Everyone Hate the English?, many Irish people find it rather irritating to see the event being used as an excuse to get daytime-drunk by people many, many miles from Ireland itself.

Which begs the question, just why IS St Patrick’s Day such a huge thing among people whose knowledge of Irish culture doesn’t extend much beyond a dim familiarity with the Corrs’ early work? And why has St George’s Day had such a raw deal, cultural phenomenon wise? Indeed, according to a poll by a British think tank, English people are far more likely to know the date of St Patrick’s Day, as opposed to the date of their own patron saint’s day (it’s April 23, in case you were wondering).
